A video by Liceo Artistico “Cademia“ of Urtijëi/St. Ulrich/Ortisei explains how the Dolomites were formed

A short animated film produced by 29 pupils from Liceo Artistico of Urtijëi/St. Ulrich/Ortisei explains the origin and formation of the Dolomites from a scientific point of view

“In response to a request from the Tourist Association of Urtijëi/St. Ulrich/Ortisei, in the 2015/16 academic year classes 4.A, 4.B, 5.A and 5.B of the Advertising Graphics and Photography course at Liceo Artistico “Cademia” produced a short animated film about the formation of the Dolomites.

The film, which lasts about 10 minutes, uses a simple yet eye-catching technique to explain the geological process which led to the creation of our mountains. Creatively combining narrative with images, they have managed to transform complex content into a sequence of images which are easy to understand.

This project would not have been possible without the invaluable scientific contribution of the archaeologist, Herwig Prinoth, who not only gave us a special lesson about the geological history of the Dolomites at the beginning of the project, but continued to supervise our progress throughout the year.

In May 2016, the video and three portfolios of sketches were exhibited at the II Bienal de Arte y Escuela de la Axarquía Torre del Mar, in Spain.

The videos can be seen on the Liceo Artistico “Cademia“ YouTube channel and on the Urtijëi/St. Ulrich/Ortisei Tourist Association website www.valgardena.it in the “Dolomites” section. Another version is also being used as educational material at the Museum Ladin in Ciastel de Tor.

During the project, the pupils were assisted by teachers Sara Welponer (coordinator, story board and art director), Andreas Linder (director of animation and in charge of the technical aspects) and Verena Paolazzi (scenography, portfolios and contacts with the Bienal de Arte y Escuela, Torre del Mar, Spain).
