The Dolomites have been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 26 June 2009. The criteria that allowed the Dolomites to receive this important recognition relate to their exceptional beauty and geological history.
The Geological Heritage Network of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation, co-ordinated by the Autonomous Province of Trento, approved its own guidelines and the updated list of projects to work on.
