Pale di San Martino: glaciers under the lens

On 7 September, the third focus meeting on glaciers will be held in San Martino di Castrozza (Trento). The event is promoted by the Cabina di Regia delle Aree Protette e dei Ghiacciai [steering committee for protected areas and glaciers] of the Autonomous Province of Trento.

What is it all about?

The Giornate dei ghiacciai [glacier days] are a series of regular meetings held on the subject of glaciers and high-altitude environments. They represent an opportunity to reflect on the vulnerability of these areas and share knowledge. The meeting on 7 September in San Martino di Castrozza, in the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park, will also include discussions surrounding the Fradusta glacier, which has shrunk by around 90% in the last century. The event will look at explorations of the glacial world through the eyes of a historian, geologist, biologist and archaeologist, able to recover elements concerning the historical memory preserved in these places as the ice retreats. An excursion to the Pale plateau is planned for the afternoon. For more information and a detailed programme [in Italian], visit Giornate dei Ghiacciai.
