#mountainhutlife: final session

On Saturday 12 October, the Città di Fiume mountain hut will host the final event in the #MOUNTAINHUTLIFE festival, focusing on the theme of “Prudence as a primary safety measure”. The session, again moderated by Flavio Faoro, will involve Alpine Guide Luca Vallata and Belluno Dolomites Mountain Rescue delegate Alex Barattin, along with hut manager Mario Fiorentini.

Prudence… and being prepared to turn back

Discussions will focus on prudence, both from the perspective of Alpine Guides and Mountain Rescue, following another summer with many missions and rescues of uninjured people who failed to sufficiently assess their abilities or adequately plan their hike. This will mark the end of a programme of events that has led visitors to the mountains towards an understanding of the role of mountain-hut managers and the importance of a slow and respectful approach to the mountains and associated environmental values.

The final session will reiterate the basic rules for an authentic experience in the mountains, including being prepared to turn back. This is the same principle that led to the choice (again shared between hut managers and guides) to cancel some of the events planned over these months due to adverse weather conditions.

Relive the events

#MOUNTAINHUTLIFE comes to an end but leaves us with many points for reflection, which can be revisited through the coverage available on the YouTube channel of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation and, from October, episodes of “Noi Dolomiti”, broadcast on Trentino TV, Alto Adige TV, Telebelluno and Telefriuli.

This activity is part of the project “Capacity building. Strengthening the social and regional capital of the Dolomites World Heritage Site (WHS) for lasting and sustainable development of local communities”, established with the support of Fondo Comuni Confinanti.
