OItre Le Vette 2017

a growing synergy

Every year the partnership grows stronger between the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation and the cultural festival Oltre Le Vette, an event that lures to the city of Belluno mountaineers, travellers, journalists, writers, philosophers, actors, film directors and anyone interested in discussing their way of experiencing and interpreting mountain life. The festival features numerous attractions focusing on the Dolomites, from exhibitions to conferences and cinema and theatre shows. The Foundation has been a partner in organising the photographic exhibition of the work of Georg Tappeiner entitled Dolomiti, Cuore di Pietra del Mondo (The Dolomites, the heart of stone on the Earth) and the evening with Piero Badaloni on the subject of the Economy of the Common Property.

Photographic exhibition Dolomiti, cuore di pietra del mondo

After being much admired in many European capitals from Vienna to Prague, the photographic exhibition Dolomiti, Cuore di Pietra del Mondo has come home to the Dolomites and can be viewed against the magnificent backdrop of Palazzo Fulcis in the historic heart of the city of Belluno. The exhibition brings together the best pictures taken over the years by the photographer from Alto Adige Georg Tappeiner. A journey through some high altitude images with extraordinarily high definition and some truly original shots of the mountains whose unique charm and importance led to their listing in 2009 as a World Heritage Site. Among the shaded rock walls and fast-moving clouds, Tappeiner’s photography quite literally unleashes all the archaic power of these mountains, even managing to capture the precipitous fall of the meteorites that light up these natural cathedrals. The exhibition is on until Sunday 12 November with the same opening hours as the Palazzo Fulcis Museum: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9.30 – 12.30 and 15.30 – 18.30, Thursday 9.30 – 12.30, Saturday and Sunday 10.30 – 18.30, closed on Mondays.

The Dolomites, the Economy of the Common Property

On 12 October at Belluno’s municipal theatre a packed audience watched a showing of the documentary “Economia del Bene Comune” (The Economy of the Common Property). This was followed by a debate with Stefano Sanson, Marcello Martini, Marcella Morandini and Piero Badaloni, moderated by Flavio Faoro. The fertile mountain, the theme of the 2017 edition of Oltre le Vette, could not do without its inhabitants, just as a UNESCO World Heritage Site cannot but be connected to its local communities. The documentary tells the story of the inhabitants of this archipelago who have decided to embark on an enterprise in the environment in which they were born, focusing on quality, sustainability and innovation to add value to the common property. The DVD Dolomiti. Economia del Bene Comune was made possible thanks to the support of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture of the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano and it was directed by Piero Badaloni in collaboration with Fausta Slanzi, with photography and graphic design by Nicola Berti. The DVD can be purchased here.
