The 28th edition of Oltre le Vette is here

For the 28th consecutive year, this ten-day event will see Belluno at the centre of reflections on the relationship between humans and the mountains. The latest edition of “Oltre le Vette [Beyond the Peaks]: mountain metaphors, people and places” is here.

Manifesto Oltre le Vette 2024

The theme for this year’s programme

From 4 to 13 October, participants will explore alpinism, literature, art, sport, human sciences and environment through a busy programme of events. The technical committee is headed by Valeria Benni, with organisational support from the municipality of Belluno and the Theatres of the Dolomites Foundation.

This year’s theme is ”Filo, philos, filò”, a play on words intertwining the imagery of a thread (filo) as a connection between people (in the case of mountaineering, as essential as the ropes used to climb), “philia”, which relates to friendship, openness and understanding, and “filò”, meaning a convivial occasion for storytelling and listening.

An engaged foundation: exploring responsible communication

This edition will see further consolidation of the relationship between the programme of events in Belluno and the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation, with cooperation on various initiatives. The Foundation will run an event focused on communication and, in line with the theme, on exploring the relationship between the local area, the organisations promoting it and its visitors, many of whom seem to have wandered off the path of a respectful and informed approach to the mountains. In January, with the aim of spreading messages aligned with the values of the World Heritage Site, the Foundation launched a focus group coordinated by the Province of Belluno in the context of the Network for the Promotion of Sustainable Tourism, with organisations working to promote the area. The meeting, scheduled for Friday 11 October at 5.00 p.m. at Palazzo Bembo, and entitled “The Dolomites: responsible communication”, will showcase the initial results of the work. Several parties that have shared this path will speak, alongside the coordinator of the focus group, Prof. Umberto Martini from the University of Trento.

This activity is part of the project “Capacity building. Strengthening the social and regional capital of the Dolomites World Heritage Site (WHS) for lasting and sustainable development of local communities”, established with the support of Fondo Comuni Confinanti.
