The Parks of the Dolomites on RAI

Thanks to an agreement between the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation and RAI, the ten documentaries that Ivo Pecile and Marco Virgilio made for the Foundation on the parks of the Dolomites World Heritage Site will be aired on Rai Scuola (digital terrestrial television channel 57) every evening from 9 to 20 October, at about 10 p.m.

High-quality immersion in the World Heritage Site

In 2019, the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation commissioned Ivo Pecile and Marco Virgilio to create an audiovisual project that would tell the story of the landscape and geological features of the Natural Parks included in the Dolomites World Heritage Site. The splendid images from their long excursions into the environment over the past year have succeeded in capturing the wonderful nature of the Dolomites, and interviews with park managers and leading geological experts on the Dolomites area complete the immersive journey into the World Heritage Site.

Parks: the heart of UNESCO recognition

Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, Tre Cime Natural Park, Schlern Rosengarten Nature Park, Puez-Geisler Nature Park, the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Natural Park, the Natural Park of the Friulian Dolomites, Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Natural Park, Dolomiti d’Ampezzo Natural Park, Adamello Brenta Natural Park, and Geoparc Bletterbach – these are the ten protagonists of the documentaries and of UNESCO’s very recognition of the Dolomites. Indeed, it is not enough for a Property to have “outstanding universal value” in order to be added to the World Heritage List; it must also be intact and have a protection and management system in place. One of the purposes of the documentaries, which will air from 9 to 20 October on Rai Scuola, is to highlight how the presence of protected areas was a decisive factor for UNESCO recognition, and how the Parks’ interventions and coordination are crucial for the site’s active conservation policies.
