The “Dolomites: Walking Through the Geology of Wonder” exhibition will be inaugurated on 23 April at 5.30 p.m. in the exhibition spaces of Torre Mirana at Palazzo Thun in Trento as part of the 73rd edition of the Trento Film Festival. The exhibition is a project of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation developed by Biosphaera SCS within the scope of the activities of the Geological Heritage Functional Network.
The event further consolidates the collaboration between the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation and the Trento Film Festival. It will remain open until 17 May, with a workshop day planned for Monday 28 April, primarily (but not exclusively) dedicated to geologists.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE
Inspired by the Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail geological portal, the exhibition is a journey through the geological systems that make up the Dolomites World Serial Heritage Site. An itinerary in three languages consisting of nine stages will take visitors deep into the ancient past at the origin of the wonders of the Dolomites.
Curated by Biosphaera SCS and realised also with the scientific support of geologists Alfio Viganò, Riccardo Tomasoni, and Alberto Carton as part of the Geological Heritage Network, the exhibition is made particularly captivating by the photography of Matteo Visintainer and the illustrations of Davide Bonadonna.
TRANSFORMATIONS IN TIME AND SPACE
The initiative wants to bring local communities and visitors closer to the geological heritage of the Dolomites, promoting a deeper understanding of the geological transformations that have shaped and continue to shape valleys, cliffs, spires, towers, and pinnacles.
DISCOVERING AND SHARING THE STORY OF THE DOLOMITES
In order to raise awareness among the geologists themselves and the audience of the Trento Film Festival of the two criteria for UNESCO recognition as a World Heritage Site, as part of the exhibition program the Foundation has also organised the event “Dolomites, geology to be discovered and recounted” (in italian only), taking advantage of the collaboration of Ordine dei Geologi (Order of Geologists) of South Tyrol/Südtirol, Associazione Geologia Ambiente (Environment Geology Association) of South Tyrol/Südtirol Aps and MUSE. On Monday 28 April at 3.30 p.m., the Salone di Rappresentanza hall of Palazzo Geremia in Trento will host speakers such as Massimo Bernardi (director of MUSE), Marcello Caggiati (researcher at the University of Padua), Alberto Carton (lecturer at the University of Padua), Mara Nemela (director of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation) and Riccardo Tomasoni (researcher and communicator of MUSE). The discussions will be followed by a visit of the “Dolomites: Walking Through the Geology of Wonder” exhibition. For the registration, please visit this link (in italian only). The event will be free and open to members of the Order, Agatas members and the Trento Film Festival audience.

This activity is part of the project “Capacity building. Strengthening the social and regional capital of the Dolomites World Heritage Site (WHS) for lasting and sustainable development of local communities”, established with the support of Fondo Comuni Confinanti.
