The book by Ferruccio Vendramini wins the special prize for the UNESCO Dolomites in the Leggimontagna literary awards. The award will be presented Saturday 28 October in Tolmezzo in the presence of the President of the Foundation Mariagrazia Santoro.

The UNESCO Dolomites Special Prize is awarded to the book „Prima del Vajont. Per una storia di Longarone e dintorni“ (Before the Vajont. For a history of Longarone and its surroundings) by Ferruccio Vendramini (publisher Cierre Edizioni).

The Jury has selected Vendramini’s book because it embodies a clear message: a World Heritage, such as the Dolomites, consists not only of gorgeous landscapes, but above all of people, history, and social relations.

Leggimontagna

An interpretation of the essence of the Alpine spirit using different languages, capable of pulling the strings of memory or igniting the imagination: this is the spirit that moves the Leggimontagna awards in the categories Literary Prize, Films/Videos or Shorts and Educational audio-visual works.

The prize was founded in 2002 and it is awarded every year with entries from established authors, publishers, film directors and school students. It presents opportunities for moments of reflection, for entertainment and for gathering information in a 360o approach to mountain themes.

Special UNESCO Dolomites Prize

The UNESCO Dolomites Foundation has set up a Special Prize dedicated to the UNESCO Dolomites for 2017 which will be presented at important cultural events throughout the territory.

Awards were also won by the cinematography of Nettie Wild at the Trento Film Festival, by Sergio Reolon at the Pelmo d’Oro for his commitment to civil rights and by Vandana Shiva at the literary festival Pordenonelegge for her environmental activism.

The Foundation was very keen to set up these prizes, which are awarded at leading cultural events, to strengthen bonds within the territory and help promote UNESCO values both in Italy and abroad.
