The Val Gardena Cultural Heritage Geoportal is available Online

Museums contain many stories, with evocative powers that tend, without fail, to make them return to the environment and landscape where they were originally collected and recorded. Thanks to the Val Gardena Cultural Heritage Geoportal, archaeological and palaeontological artefacts, works of art and elements representative of the traditional Gardena architecture are now digitally linked to their original places of discovery, production centres and original landscape context. The initiative of Museum Gherdëina in Ortisei/St. Ulrich (BZ), was sponsored by the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation.

ENVIRONMENT AND CULTURE

The presentation of the Val Gardena Cultural Heritage Geoportal (which also enjoys the patronage and cooperation of the South Tyrol Provincial Office for Museums and Museum Research, the South Tyrol Provincial Office for Linguistic Issues, Lia da Mont Gherdëina, and the Val Gardena Dolomites – Ortisei/St. Ulrich/Val Gardena Tourism Association) took place on 24 March. The intention of Museum Gherdëina is to offer to users the opportunity to establish a tangible link between the material cultural asset and its place of discovery or geographical location, providing texts, photos and videos that help users to better understand its significance and value.

200 ARTEFACTS… IDEALLY GO BACK HOME

More than just a digital map, the Geoportal connects over 200 historical artefacts to their places of origin, providing visitors with unique hiking ideas. Alongside archaeological, palaeontological, and artistic objects, it also includes historic farmhouses and 19th-century buildings that tell about the development at the feet of the mountains.

The Geoportal was realised within the framework of the European Union’s funding programme for the transformation of the cultural and creative sector, with the contribution of the Italian Ministry of Culture (Mission 1 – Investment 3.3.2 of the PNRR reconstruction programme).
